The Office and Management and Budget announced new data center consolidation goals and an update on consolidation pacing Oct. 6 during a press availability with Federal CIO Steven VanRoekel. OMB projects 472 data centers to shutter governmentwide by end of 2012.
VanRoekel also said the criteria for data centers to be included in the effort have changed. Previously only the closure of data centers larger than 500 square feet counted toward agency goals. Now, OMB will focus on efficiency rather than size, said
