The leader of the FBI’s Indianapolis division has been promoted deputy assistant director of the FBI’s cyber division.
FBI spokesman Drew Northern tells The Indianapolis Star that Special Agent in Charge Michael Welch will focus on cyber crime and security after moving to the agency’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., within 60 days. Welch has headed FBI operations in Indiana for the past four years.
Welch has three previous stints at headquarters in his nearly 23-year FBI career. Before coming to Indiana, he was the FBI section chief for international operations and before that was an assistant section chief in the Organized Crime Section.
Welch’s replacement hasn’t been named.
